International Harvester, prior to merging with Case, invented the first commercial PTO in 1919. This was first introduced commercially on the 8-16 model. Case also built the first gasoline powered tractor in 1892 but were ahead of the times and so had to wait until 1911 to reintroduce it when the market was ready to move away from steam. 1939 saw the first letter series, a second generation of the Farmall Tractor, introduced. This included the A and B tractors which were small sized, H the middle sized model of the range and M the large sized tractor in the series. Looking towards more recent history 1984, 1 year before merger, saw Case introduced the 94 series 4WD tractors. A series which included the 4994 model, a Scania V-8 powered engine producing gross 400 horsepower. When released the 94 series had also gone digital. It had replaced the standard analogue instruments with electronic readouts for fuel, coolant temp, EGT (exhaust gas temperature) and volts. This digital output also offered a multifunction digital readout could switch from rpm, ground speed, wheel slip and acres covered. All features common place in the more modern tractor but was considered cutting edge at the time. The Magnum Tractor series which now includes models such as the 235, 250, 255, 260, 280, 290, 310, 315, 340, 370 and the 380. Originally introduced in 1987 and is still being developed to this day, with CASE IH constantly increasing the horsepower and adding addition features.
